From the hands of our artisans to your home

Inside the historic souks of Marrakech, our workshop brings NEOMEDINA lighting to life through hands-on metalwork. Each piece takes shape through a sequence of cutting, engraving, piercing, assembly and finishing.

Meet the makers

Our lead master artisan is Abdelaziz Jlidi (عبدالعزيز جليدي). Working alongside him are Badr Eddine Jlidi (بدرالدين جليدي), Hicham Sghrani (هشام سغراني), Yassine Amlah (يسين املاح) and Othman Chamali (عتمان الشمالي).

Behind the finished light is the work of these artisans: preparing the metal, developing the decorative details and bringing the individual parts together.

How we make our lighting

  1. Selecting the brass. We begin by purchasing the brass for the piece.
  2. Laying out the design. The decorative pattern is marked on the metal before cutting begins.
  3. Cutting the parts. Individual sections are cut to prepare the components of the design.
  4. Engraving and piercing. The metal is engraved and perforated to create the pattern and openings through which light can shine.
  5. Assembling the form. The prepared sections are brought together to create the body of the piece.
  6. Polishing and final assembly. After assembly, the piece is polished and its final components are fitted.
  7. Inspecting the finished piece. We examine the product before preparing it for dispatch.

The character of handmade work

Small differences in texture, finish, pattern alignment and dimensions can occur between handmade pieces. These variations reflect the work involved in making each item.

Prepared for the journey

After inspection, the finished piece is protected for shipping. Packaging is selected according to the size and form of the product; the photograph below shows an example of protective wrapping and a wooden crate.
